May is Celiac Awareness Month

May is Celiac Awareness month, let’s get the word out about this disease. It’s a condition that most likely affects more people than we realize due to its seemingly unrelated symptoms. Many medical providers misdiagnose it because they may not see the whole picture of their patient’s health. Many people seek treatment for one or two of the symptoms, but don’t know to communicate everything they are experiencing because they do not realize they are related. As patients we don’t want to complain about every ache and pain and as medical professionals, we sometimes miss the forest for the trees.

The Celiac Disease Foundation and Glutino (a GF food manufacturer) is running a campaign for Celiac Awareness month until May 17th to get support for treatment and cure research. Check out the “Give It. Raise It. Get It.” campaign at Celiac.org.

BeyondCeliac.org posted some neat infographics that I wanted to share as well. As you can see from the pics below, this site focuses on “awareness, advocacy, and action.” They are also running a campaing for Celiac Awareness month called ” THERE’S NO CURE WITHOUT U.” You gotta love the cleverness of it, I know I do!
